Living Patterns

(Florence Broadhurst)

(Art work by Emma Hack)

Award winning artist and skin illustrator, Emma Hack, started her career in make up and face painting. Her creativity however was to lead to greater things, and her latest collection took inspiration from the wonderful prints of the late Florence Broadhurst.

Tragically murdered in her own studio, Australian artist and designer, Florence Broadhurst was renowned for her exquisitely designed wallpapers. Her colourful, geometric and naturally inspired pieces were instantly recognisable due to their sheer detail and beauty. Mesmerised by her collection of prints, Emma Hack decided to use some of Broadhurst's most recognisable pieces in her own photography and body art work. Using live models to 'play' against the character and charm of each print, she decided to painstakingly hand paint each design in order to create living illusionary art. For me, the beauty of each print and its retracing onto skin is simply astounding. The idea of patterns lifted from the fragile paper and placed on equally fragile bare skin is a beautiful one.

Amazing classics. Something to make you picture a time of the year, a moment perhaps of smiling..when you see it. Even if it were just a shower curtain.

Looks like you are definitely ready for Feb.

And the entire concept is just fantastic - I had never heard of Emma Hack or Florence Broadhurst, to be honest, but now I have such an appreciation for their work!
So thank you DK! And enjoy your weekend :)

mmmm, this kind of reminds me of that scene in garden state when zach braff's character is wearing the shirt that matches the wall paper.
i want my room to have some of that wall paper all over it.
do you want to trade links? i'm a constant lurk.

omg it's so good to be in touch with technology! I have missed your blog! and i am so glad to have caught up on your posts.... Etnies and Disney what a dream... i dig the Emma Hack artwork.... it reminds me of Adams Family 2, when Wednesday Adams camouflages with the dreary wallpaper to eavesdrop.

I hope you have been well :)

And yes... London-town soon... March to be exact ;)
